In 1972\, the Report to The Club of Rome – The Limits to Growth\, i dentified how depletion intensified the problem of pollution related to th e extraction and consumption of mineral commodities.\n\nAccording to the r eport\, carried out using system dynamics\, in some cases pollution can tr ump depletion in reducing extraction profits and\, eventually\, force prod uction to stop. One example is the extraction of hydrocarbons which causes global warming\, and other pollution problems such as ocean acidification \, microplastics and "forever chemicals". While CO2 is not normally classi fied as a pollutant\, it may have harmful effects on human health and on t he whole ecosystem. Negative effects on human mental abilities are seen al ready at CO2 concentrations commonly experienced indoors today\, a recent publication explains the implications of rising CO2 on human beings.\n\nTh e session at the World Resources Forum 2025 aims to highlight the problem in general\, with a special view on fossil fuels and plastics and on the p ossibilities of their substitution by non-polluting substances.\n\nThe Oth er Side of Depletion: The Pollution Impact of Mineral Resources \n2 Septe mber\, 11:00-12:00 \nSpeakers include: \nUgo Bardi - Consorzio Interunive rsitario di Scienza e Tecnologia dei Materiali (INSTM) and member of The C lub of Rome\nJane Muncke - Food Packaging Forum Foundation\nKuo-Wei Huang - King Abdullah University of Science and Technology and member\, The Club of Rome\nCarlos Alvarez Pereira - Secretary General\, The Club of Rome ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.clubofrome.org/wp-content/uploads/20 25/07/24.png CATEGORIES:Planetary Emergency,Reframing Economics END:VEVENT BEGIN:VTIMEZONE TZID:Europe/Brussels X-LIC-LOCATION:Europe/Brussels BEGIN:DAYLIGHT DTSTART:20250330T030000 TZOFFSETFROM:+0100 TZOFFSETTO:+0200 TZNAME:CEST END:DAYLIGHT END:VTIMEZONE END:VCALENDAR
