Humanity is retreating from the core values and institutional commitments that flourished after the end o f the Cold War. Waves of turbulence are undermining efforts to address the most pressing challenges and goals facing humanity today. Addressing each of the challenges individually is not enough. We must understand the big picture and address the underlying the root causes and deep drivers of the turbulence that impact all of them and all of us.\n\nWAAS@65 is an initia tive to examine the root causes of global turbulence in the 21st century a nd identify strategic solutions to restore peace\, stability\, human secur ity and sustainable progress\, organised by the World Academy of Art and S cience (WAAS).\n\nWAAS@65 will feature members of The Club of Rome during the following sessions:\nPlenary Session 5: 'Global Peace Offensive'\n22 J uly\, 13:30-14:50 CEST\nSpeakers include Carlos Álvarez Pereira\, Secreta ry-General of The Club of Rome\, Ugo Bardi\, National Interuniversity Cons ortium of Materials Science &\; Technology\, University of Florence\, I taly\; member of The Club of Rome and Goran Bandov\, Professor\, Universit y of Zagreb\; President\, Croatian Association of the Club of Rome\n\n- Th e Global Peace Offensive is a proactive\, dialogue driven peacebuilding st rategy. It’s based on a radical innovation and the awareness of the pres ent greatest threats for humanity. The Global Peace Offensive strategy\, a dopted by WAAS\, EASA and The Club of Rome\, offers practical solutions in crisis contexts that discussants will comment on.\nParallel Session 7A: ' Mobilising Science &\; Technology as a Force For Good'\n22 July\, 16:00 –16:50 CEST\nSpeakers include Nebojša Neskovic\, Vice President (Scienc e &\; Technology)\, WAAS\; member of The Club of Rome\; President\, Ser bian Chapter of The Club of Rome\, Marianna Bozesan\, Founder &\; Manag ing Partner of AQAL Group\; member of The Club of Rome\n\n- Science and te chnology are powerful drivers for social progress. At the same time the sp eed with which they are advancing and the power that they generate are gro wing sources of the uncertainty\, insecurity and instability global societ y is now undergoing. This session organised by UNES CO MOST Bridges explores the need for development of a comprehensive trans disciplinary approach to the global process and for formulation of effecti ve institutions and strategies to promote an integrated approach to consci ous social evolution.\nParallel Session 9B 'Solutions to Reduce Ecological ly Rooted Uncertainty and Insecurity'\n22 July\, 18:00–18:50 CEST\nSpeak ers include Anitra Thorhaug\, President\, Greater Caribbean Energy and Env ironment Foundation\, USA\; member of The Club of Rome and Anders Wijkman\ , Honorary President of The Club of Rome\, Board Member\, Swedish Developm ent Authority\n- Rising awareness and concern regarding the threats posed by ecological challenges related to climate\, the oceans\, land and water are major\ncontributors to the growing sense of insecurity fuelling global turbulence today. This session will examine the most promising strategies for addressing these root causes of the uncertainty and insecurity.\n\n\n \nParallel Session 11A: 'Navigating Contradictions between Progressive Soc ial Evolution and Resistance to Change'\n23 July\, 15:00–15:50 CEST\n\n\ nSpeakers include Petra Kuenkel\, member of the Executive Committee of The Club of Rome\n\n- Agenda 2030 marked a recognition by global society that it was essential for humanity to move beyond the ideas\, values and actio ns that conflict with and oppose a peaceful\, prosperous\, harmonious and sustainable life for all humanity on this planet. The global turbulence of recent decades represents the resistance and reaction to consciously acce pt this evolutionary transition. This panel will examine the forces that r esist this transformation and how can they be consciously addressed.\n\n\n \n\nParallel Session 15B 'Changing the way we think'\n24 July\, 14:00-14:5 0 CEST\nModerating the session is Carlos Álvarez Pereira\, Secretary-Gene ral of The Club of Rome\n- The sources of global turbulence all point to f undamental flaws in the ideas\, theories\, institutional functioning and p olicies directing society today.
