Cvelbar, Uros

Uroš Cvelbar has dedicated his career to researching innovative and sustainable ecotechnologies for both general and industrial applications, aiming to facilitate the green transition.

He is a professor and head of a department at the Jožef Stefan Institute. In addition to his pioneering research, he is committed to educating and mentoring younger generations. Cvelbar is a world-renowned expert in materials science, plasma nanoscience and energy harvesting and storage. He is the author of over 250 publications and holds over 20 patents; several transferred to industry, including plasma-based surface modification technology applied in companies as green processing.

He combines fundamental research with practical innovation, enabling technologies that advance the green transition and systemic sustainability. His leadership integrates academia, industry and policy. He is also a Fellow of the World Academy of Arts and Sciences (WAAS), European Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Electrochemical Society and serves as the Vice-Chair of the Slovenian Association to the Club of Rome.

Cvelbar’s career embodies sustainability, systemic innovation and leadership. By bridging cutting-edge science with industrial practice, fostering international collaborations, and mentoring future generations, he actively contributes to the green transition and planetary well-being.
