Martin Mbewe
Martin Mbewe is a multi-media journalist and development communications specialist from Malawi. Martin believes in the power of communication to create awareness, enhance behaviour change, initiate policy dialogue on global challenges and help build a fairer and more sustainable future for all. With a background in journalism, Martin has held various roles, including working as a current affairs reporter with the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation, with Cure International, the Ministry of Agriculture’s Communications Branch and Tingathe Malawi, where he supported public engagement and strategic storytelling. Martin has led an eco-briquettes training project in the peri-urban areas of Lilongwe District, Malawi, for the Global Environment Facility and the United Nations Development Programme, which successfully empowered over 600 people, raising awareness and providing practical suggestions around sustainable energy use in local communities. Martin has published several thought pieces on social issues, including climate change and education.
Yvonne Wambua
Yvonne Wambua is a Nairobi-based filmmaker and storyteller passionate about climate justice and sustainability. With a background spanning festival-nominated films, including Cheza (Kalasha Best Student Film 2023), WABA (screened for Day of the Girl Child by Global Partnership for Education 2024), and I Know My Rights (Uganda Film Festival nomination 2025)—as well as digital branding and campaigns for Kenyan startups. Most recently, she served as a Knowledge and Research Intern at the World Agricultural Forum, where she shaped research-based storytelling on climate-smart agriculture. There, she authored the piece, When Climate Solutions Hurt, weaving local voices and data to critically interrogate development practice. She brings a creative eye for translating complex climate data into human stories. Yvonne believes in the power of merging arts-driven narratives with strategic climate communication. She has her professional roots in visual storytelling, with a commitment to grassroots voices.
Alifiandi Rahman Yusuf
Alifiandi Yusuf is a communications specialist passionate about making sustainability more accessible through impactful storytelling. He has worked on development programmes funded by the UK and Australian governments, focusing on sustainable forest governance and rural poverty alleviation. He led the #FutureFarmers media campaign, which reached over two million people and promoted climate-smart agriculture among smallholder farmers. He also contributed to Indonesia’s national timber verification system (SVLK) by developing a communication strategy that integrated sustainability principles to enhance global market appeal. Alif holds a BA in International Relations from Universitas Gadjah Mada and is especially interested in bridging the knowledge–action gap in the southeast Asia to shift narratives toward systemic change.

Pavithra Ashok Kumar
Pavithra Ashok Kumar is a communications and marketing professional with diverse experiences in this sphere. Her experiences span science communication and outreach at the National Centre for Biological Sciences (Bangalore Life Science Cluster), brand marketing and PR in the media and entertainment industry with the Technicolor Group, and academia. Pavithra puts her BA in English, Psychology and Journalism to good use along with her MSc in Cognitive Science while understanding her audience and crafting impactful communications across different platforms. She is passionate about storytelling in all its forms and seeks to grow her skills with every new story she tells.
Kabir Naik
Kabir Naik is a Development Communications Specialist focused on visual communication, highlighting climate inequality through innovative media strategies. With a background in Political Science from the University of Delhi, Kabir brings a nuanced understanding of socio-political dynamics to his work. An accomplished documentary filmmaker, he specialises in documenting the intersections of climate impact and social justice to catalyse meaningful change. He is the founder of Sunny Side South, a platform dedicated to developing inclusive climate communication solutions that aim to help communities in lower-income countries understand, adapt to, and combat the impacts of climate change. Recognised by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India as one of the “75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow,” his vision is to leverage media and communication as powerful tools for social justice, fostering global solidarity and collective action.
2023
Nonhlanhla Ngwenya
Nonhlanhla Ngwenya is a Zimbabwean journalist and communications consultant, with experience in both media and communications fields in Zimbabwe, including community media to regional correspondence. Nonhlanhla has held various roles at the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA), the Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe and the Graca-Machel Trust’s Women in Media Network Zimbabwe. She is vice-chairperson of the WAN-IFRA Women in News Alums Zimbabwe Chapter and was recently appointed as the Zimbabwean Ambassador for the African Youth Policy Experts (AFRINYPE) Member of the Climate Action Directorate of Media and Publicity (2022-2025). Nonhlanhla has spoken on panel discussions related to the Zimbabwean media landscape, freedom of expression, media sustainability, sexual harassment in the newsroom and gender parity in the media. Nonhlanhla holds a BA in Media Studies and is passionate about innovative and creative communications and media in Zimbabwe.
