Published 2025 – In its response to the European Commission’s public consultation on the Circular Economy Act, the Taskforce on Materials and Consumption has submitted a set of recommendations designed to secure Europe’s future security and resilience while taking advantage of opportunities for innovation and social equity.
The Taskforce’s submission calls for the Commission to adopt a demand-focused approach to the management of critical resources. At a time of growing geopolitical and economic pressures, the group argues that cutting demand for natural resources is essential not only to meet climate and nature goals, but also to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness and security.
Taskforce members: Lewis Akenji, Anders Wijkman, Sandrine Dixson-Declève, Janez Potočnik, Peter Hennicke, Lars Fogh Mortensen, Saleem Ali, Nafeez Ahmed, Ken Webster, Fritz Hinterberger, John Warner and Harry Lehmann
