Published 2025 – This paper introduces a bold new paradigm for peace in the Anthropocene. Planetary Peace for Human Security: Responses to Existential Risks in the Anthropocene redefines peace as more than the absence of war, proposing a regenerative model rooted in justice, sustainability and global cooperation.
With 56 armed conflicts currently active, and a world increasingly defined by climate disruption, biodiversity loss, rising inequality and the accelerating risks of AI and emerging technologies, the report argues that traditional security frameworks are outdated. It highlights how current systems often reinforce instability and calls for a transition to peace as an active, systems-based process addressing structural causes of insecurity: ecological degradation, economic exploitation and enduring colonial legacies.
Grounded in systems thinking and enriched by diverse perspectives, including science, Indigenous knowledge and youth leadership the paper outlines pathways to planetary peace. These include inclusive governance, intergenerational dialogue and a shift from extraction to regeneration, aiming to cultivate the conditions for all life to thrive.
